Should I Move (I Really Want To)

To cut a long story short I’m sharing a flat with some people and I really want to move. My rent all in currently is £380.00 including power, council tax and internet.

I’m looking at a 1 bed flat that is £420.00 a month with an EPC of C and council tax will probably be about £50.00. The only thing that’s stopping me is my current job is seasonal so I need to prepare for potentially three months of unemployment. However I have £3000.00 in my bank and about a further £1000.00 in shares so can I move?

I’m good with money and I really want to.

I'd be looking how much you are able to save a month currently and comparing that to how much extra you'll be paying in the flat once you have factored in costs.

You've mentioned how much you think the council tax might be - have you tried to work out the costs of everything else? Elec, Gas, Water, TV Licence(?), Internet etc

As a rough guess you may find you'll be around £200 a month worse off, have you been saving that amount per month?

If you plan on relying on the savings for a period of unemployment then also consider if you will you need to use any of your savings for furniture/household goods etc that may be provided in your current place but not in a flat?

  • I'm going to contact the agency and ask them for last years heating bill. I think I will be okay but I've got commitment issues with long term financial contracts.
