My co-worker who is leaving today has discovered an issue with her annual leave pay. On asking our two other leavers have also been underpaid.

In light of this and the comments made yesterday I have advised I am now going to take my annual leave rather than take the money. They were deeply unhappy with this outcome, but as I know my references are set and I have no desire to be fighting with payroll months after I have left i am not all that bothered if they are upset.

I will admit that I am being entirely petty (which is very unlike me) and motivated by yesterday’s comments but it’s kind of taken the heart out me and i just don’t want to be here. Especially as the individual did one of those cringeworthy card/present giving speeches where everyone gathered at my desk and she told all n sundry that she thinks the world of me and how I was her ‘go to gal’ and she was SO very sorry to see me leave as I was such a wonderful person, a good friend to her as well as an asset to the business. I think she even managed to squeeze out a tear.

And you didn't ask her then why she gave you a rubbish reference?

There's no way I would have sat there and listened to her spout that rubbish. When she had finished, I would have turned around and said, "That's not what you said about me as I discovered at my exit interview" and then proceeded to publicly quote what she said about me. The look on her face would have been priceless!

You are going to be so pleased to be away from her! How anyone could be stupid enough to write down those comments is beyond me, and then to stand there and make a speech to your face!? Unbelievable - bet you can't wait to start the new job.

BTW - think your decision about taking the annual leave is a good one.

Best of luck with it all :)
