Credit history and credit checks for job in finance

When my ex and I split up over 4 years ago, we had a few disputes over who was going to pay for what. It ended with a joint loan which was settled in July last year (but consequently defaulted over a long period of time), and I have two credit cards in my name only which I am repaying - one normal payments and the other as part of a repayment agreement.
I changed career three years ago but when I was head hunted for a job back in financial services last year, I was deeply embarrassed when I was offered the position but didn't make it through the credit check. Not CCs, no CCJs but the loan, for example, was still showing as outstanding and I then had both CCs on repayment plans.
Because the dispute took place while I was still in financial services (same employer for 11 years), there was no issue with credit checks. However, I now need to go back but first I need to understand whether my current situation will pass the checks. My Experian report gives me a pretty high score / very green overall but I have read on this forum that their results can be very misleading.

Your credit score is irrelevant, partly because it's worthless and partly because no one sees it.
You need to check what criteria your employer is looking for, and then check whether the detail on your files will pass their checks.0
