Student loan from 96/97/98

Options
Hi,

I think it is with the honours student loan company. From what I can tell of my last 6 monthly statement.

This does not show on my credit file (I have checked all three) is it true that it can not show up on my credit file ?

Its an Old style one which I can defer if you do not own a specific amount.

Can anybody let me know what the current deferment figure is. As the website lists two numbers

£2227 per month on one page, and £2398 on another page (both gross)

I have arrears on this and have being on a DMP paying them back £30 ish a month which just covers the interest.

If its not showing on my credit file, apart from owning them money should I class it as a small problem and not something to worry about in sorting my credit file out ?

I have one of the loans from that period (starting in 1999) - doesn't show on my credit record and has had zero impact on me getting any credit that I want - I pay some pitiful sum each month (£11) which is a good few hundred quid less than the interest that is added every year. Sadly I shall still be paying until I'm 65 I think unlike the much fairer current system which is wiped out after 30 years AND doesn't come out of your salary until you are earning £21k so I wouldn't have had to lose even a penny 11 years on!

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I think the 1999 on ward loans are different from the one I have.

Mine only starts repayments if you earn over 27k I think.

Which I hit when I was on my dmp and caused arrears. Hence having to pay it back.
