Blacking out a bedroom - help please !

Hi
My husband works nights and I need to do a better job of blacking out the room so he can sleep during the day. The room is at the back of the house and is flooded with light as the sun rises. We already have blackout curtains but the light comes over the top, underneath and to the sides of the curtains ( Curtain pole ) How can I completely blackout the room ? Are curtains on a track better as they would sit closer to the wall ?
Thanks in advance

black out blind - argos do them
plus your curtains on a track would help more
my sons room has both the above and stays fairly dark
my own room has very heavy dark curtains only and also does a good job of keeping the light out
may have to be trial and error to see what works best for you0 -
Another vote for a blackout roller blind - fix it as close to the window frame (or to the window frame) as possible then close your curtains on top of that. Worked to stop our toddler waking up super early during the summer :-)
You can sometimes find the "gro anywhere" blinds on offer. They're a blackout blind you can stick to any window - a bit more hassle than the roller blinds for long term use, but much easier to install!0 -
We've got blinds fitted directly onto the window frame in the kids rooms.0

raving mad - where did you get them from please ?0

Another vote for Argos blackout blinds. The brackets are only plastic, and can be a bit flimsy but the blind itself does a really good job.
We have also bought from web-blinds.com, and the brackets on these are much better, but the price obviously higher"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
Eye blackout blinds another vote - if you fit yourself remember to leave enough gap for the window handles (if you've got them).0

raving mad - do they make the room completely dark ? if you don't mind me asking - how much did they cost ? did you have to install them yourself ?
thanks0 -
Sometimes my wife has to stay over on call at work and we bought some blinds that velcro to the frame - pitch black though they don't look great but as it's an 'office bedroom' kind of thing it doesn't really matter. I guess you could just take off the material when it's not in use.
We got ours from Argos I think but google mostly comes back with Amazon stuff ...0
