The House Crowd

Has anyone had any dealings or advice to give about a company called The House Crowd? I'm thinking of investing a small sum of money with them. I've always been cautious with savings but the interest rate has been so low for so long that I'm considering taking a bit more risk. I'd appreciate some feedback. Thank you.

Have you already got other investments?

Before looking at something like this I'd make sure I already had a balanced portfolio in S&S ISAs first. I can't imagine the returns are that good when there is so much admin for them to do.

I have used them since September 2012 and am invested in about a dozen properties via them, representing about 5% of my investment portfolio.

    Not had any problems.

Pleasant and easy to deal with. Quick to respond to queries.

  • Thank you all so much for your comments and advice. The S&S ISA's don't seem to do all that well at the moment either. I imagine the returns have to be better with this kind of investment as there is more risk involved. Encouraged to hear positive remarks from someone who has actually dealt directly with House Crowd. Many thanks again.

where do you get that from? it depends what you put in an S&S ISA - it is just a wrapper which can hold a wide range of investments - but most of the mainstream investment options have been doing rather well for the last few years.

It sounds like you have no idea of what s&s ISAs are. It's purely a wrapper than can contain many different investments. One of my investments has increased by 20% in the last 3 weeks, how is that not doing well? Obviously that's incredibly short term performance but over the last few years markets have done very well. I can't imagine these house investments cost as little as 0.08% in management fees.

  • You're probably right. I don't understand enough about investments. I had a regular monthly savings plan through a broker and could see the money was spread around different investments, but after a number of years could not see it growing very much so decided to cancel. I also have the usual cash ISAs which have to be moved to try to get a better deal.
I looked at online Share Dealing, but chickened out as I guess you really need to be checking daily to see how things are in the finance world. I need someone to manage it for me as I don't have the time to keep on top of it myself.

it depends a lot on when you happened to buy, and when you check the value of the ISA. because the value bounces up and down, apparently at random, rather than rising steadily. and if you happen to buy in just before it drops, it can take a long time before it's showing much (or any) gain.

it could also be poor choice of what investments to buy. though nobody really knows what will do well, so generally it's best just to go for holding a bit of everything (e.g. tracker funds which hold a few shares in all the biggest companies on stock markets from around the world), instead of something too specific (e.g. peruvian pork scratching futures).

well, perhaps not daily, but it's a lot more time invested, and putting a lot of time into investing sometimes doesn't give you better results, anyway. which is perhaps surprising, or at least unlike many other fields of endeavour.
  • Many thanks Grey Gym Sock, I guess I'll just end up being really boring and putting the money into the best Cash ISA available this year.
