Aldi do a pre-pack of Ham trimmings. This is 400g for £1.65, IIRC. The advantage over other ham products at about the same price is that this "proper" ham off the bone, sometimes quite large chunks, just not uniform slices.

Never bought it myself, but it looks okay.

OP needs to differentiate between the proper deli trimmings which you'll only find in a SM that has a deli counter where they cut the ham for you.

    OR

Lots of places do prepacked ham trimmings including Aldi, Farmfoods and Iceland. These are generally good value for money and probably the trimmings from prepackaged ham when they're slicing it in factories. The quality varies hugely so I look carefully at the packs before buying and even then it's a risk as you can only see the slices on top. Plus the packs are quite large so you'd need a plan to eat fairly quickly after opening.

Morrisons in my area have them on the deli counter, but they are usually just scraps of tiny bits of different meats in a big pile. My local co-op have them for 70p per 100g and they are proper slices of meat, they are usually happy to give me a big pile of the ham but it does depend on who serves you, I once asked for the ham, which was just sitting on the top, I wasn't asking for her to look through the pile of meat, but she weren't happy, she said they weren't allowed to pick certain meats out, but the meat there is great, not tiny scraps, they are proper slices of meat sold cheaper.

So... is it the small quantity people are looking for?

Because the OP is correct - 69p or 70p for 100g isn't that cheap.

As a comparison, Aldi have a small pack of lean breaded ham that is 79p for 100g. They also have Garlic Sausage for 37p for 100g - is this the cheapest non-suspicious meat in the UK?

I've also bought the ham trimmings from Aldi - they do a lovely mustard one (wholegrain) - if you can find it! I usually have to settle for the breaded ham. It's not usually very long dated, and for just the 2 of us would take a while to use for sandwiches, so I dump a load on plates for a quick dinner with new potatoes (covered in lots of lovely butter), peas, tomatoes and sweetcorn :) £1.65 for 400g - bargain :) and highly recommended. But as meer53 says, have a good look (as far as you can) before you buy it :)

I've used the Iceland packs before. I've had ham, pork, beef and chicken. I make up batches of sandwiches for work and freeze them. The packs were £1.75 so with a loaf of bread they make a cheap lunch for at least a week. You can add pickles or a bit of cheese to add variety. As other have mentioned you need to look at the packs as they so vary in quality.

My local Tesco bags up the ends and scraps from each of their sliced meats and puts them in the reduced section - not named anything in particular just the meat they are.The discount isn't great either - only a few pence of the full selling price usually.

I have seen bags of meat trimmings in the reduced section of supermarkets, not sure they'd be advertised on their websites.

A local shop has its own deli and meat counters, and sells "meat end packs" for 99p for 450g. All the pieces come from proper joints of meat, and as far as I'm concerned, they are the tastiest bits :) It's one of those "eat out of the packet in front of the open fridge" foods (until I realise I'm wasting electricity :o)
