deli trimmings

I have seen in some super markets that they sell at lower price the ends from the big bricks of ham or other deli meats, that cannot be cut into slices. How are these called exactly? I want to search for their prices in Asda, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl.

I'm not sure you will find them online as I think they just reduce as and when they have them.

You won't find them as they don't sell them, well its not something they put on display like all the hams etc.

In my area the only supermarkets that cut on site are Morrisons and Sainsburys, therefore trimmings are only available from these. In my experience they are always mixed meats, only available on request (never displayed) and only if you're lucky. Asking for cooked meat "offcuts or trimmings" will get you what you describe, assuming other customers haven't beaten you to it.

My local Morrisons display them. I think they are 69p/100g and it's sheer chance what is in there. I have often asked for a particular cut to be fished out when I could see it in there and they have happily obliged.

you must be kidding, at 6.9/kg you can have the best ham sliced!

Aldi do a pre-pack of Ham trimmings. This is 400g for £1.65, IIRC. The advantage over other ham products at about the same price is that this "proper" ham off the bone, sometimes quite large chunks, just not uniform slices.

Never bought it myself, but it looks okay.

it's a bit expensive, as the same Aldi have ham with 3.7/kg

Probably not clear in my post. The trimmings are proper ham off the bone. All of the similarly priced sliced products are processed ham with added water. Either way, they are cheaper than SharonD101's 6.90/kg.

Did you find the Pork products you were looking for?

Sainsburys call theirs Ham Ends. The one I buy from does display them but not all the time. I think they keep the bits to one side in a chiller until they have enough to sell. They said takes 1-2 days to build up.

One of my friends uses this for hm quiche and pies.

    Can't recall the price.

Ham end sounds right. Trimmings are usually the daily offcuts where they remove the dry each morning and you don't want those dry bits!
