East London to Birmingham - best routes?
Comments
-
I've done both M40 and M1, the time of day and part of Birmingham you're visiting may play a part in the decision.
NEC. So need to end up on Eastern Edge of birmingham. M40 might mean I have to circle from south Birmingham to East Birmingham which could be difficult during rush hour.
Got a show closing at the NEC which I need to close down later this week.
M1 is probably the best road to end up on before the destination as the NEC is literally straight off the M10 -
The root depends on the time of day.
Any chance of you telling us?0 -

Sorry mate, but the NEC is off the M42. The M1 goes nowhere near Birmingham.
From the M1, you'd need to go M6 North to the M42 South then off at the NEC.0 -
And knowing your final destination.
You don't know London Tiger, he has somewhat of a reputation for entertaining posts and threads.
My favourite being https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4396019 post 76 is the standout in that thread0 -

sorry yeah you're right. the bulk of the route I was on the m1, and then slips onto the m6 for a bit and then then to the NEC. Sorry, had a lapse in memory there.0 -

It's not off the M6 either, M42 then A45 or M6 A452.
Unless of corse it's moved.0 -
If you come up M6 north when you switch onto M42 south NEC is the next junction so just stick in the left hand lane (or hard shoulder if active lane management is on) and it's fairly simply.
Coming up M40/M42 it's 3 junctions (i think) from getting on the M42 and I find the traffic round Solihull can be busy (depending on time of day).0 -
Why would you go Old Street to get to Islington?
Or do you mean Old Street then New North Rd up to Holloway Road then up to the M1?
I certainly wouldn't be going A12 and M11 as both routes can be badly congested and the A14 is a pain due to the number of LGVs using it.
I would go the route I mentioned above.
Then M1, M6, M42 and off at the junction 6 of the A45 and the NEC is right there0 -
Driving across London to the base of the M1 would take a minimum of 35 minutes (More likely 45). You can cover a lot of distance at an uninterrupted 50mph on the a12 and then at 70mph once you hit the M11.
People are to reliant on sat navs rather than actually looking at a map for other routes.
Sat Navs are incredibly inaccurate on how long a trip will take across London.
Reminds me of this gem I saw today...
Actually Waze is extremely accurate and uses live data from every vehicle that has the App on a phone to monitor traffic flow, it is owned by Google now and the data is also shared with Google Maps.0
