Multiple current accounts

Hi all
I'm in the process of opening another couple of current to maximise interest and was wondering, do others accept the debit cards that come with accounts or ask for no debit card?
I will be using these as savings and don't particularly need a debit card and was thinking without a debit card it would reduce any chances of fraud on the accounts.
May i ask for others opinions.
Many thanks.

It's a pretty unusual request, and I'm not sure if you can even request it.

If you really don't want a card you could just cut it up when it arrives.

Yes as suggested you can cut the card up when it arrives, as far as I know if you don't use the card for six months they don't send any new ones out when the current card expires.
  • Fair enough. I did manage to request no debit card with one of my TSB accounts and that was honoured.
Like you say, i don't have to use it and will either lock it away or shred it.

If you want to switch the current account at some point, you will almost certainly need the debit card again (or at least the details from it)

But with a bit of planning a new card can be requested and received in about a week so not the end of the world.

I'd personally just leave it somewhere safe at home - it's what I do with my balance transfer cards that I have no intention of spending on, but I don't want to cut them up because I might need the numbers if I do another BT later.
  • Now thats a very good point about needing the debit card if looking at switching accounts in future, i never thought of that, hence the reason why i asked for others opinions.

Is the debit card required, I have switched without it but this was before 7 day switching.

A lot of people are using current account as a saving account and have debitcards. I am one of those. By default they will give you a debitcard unless you inform them otherwise. My suggestion is that do not need to make instruction, just accept the DC for the following reasons:

    1. It does not cost at all to get the DC. Once you get it just keep it in safe place.

    2. By telling them you do not need DC it is the same thing that you are declaring that you are not using the current AC in an appropriate manner. It is not big problem but why what is the point to let them know about this.

    3. This is the most important reason why you should get DC and keep it. In the future you might want to switch your current accounts to get incentive, a better interest rate, etc. It is now common that they will ask your debit card or at least your debitcard detail. If you do not have it they might rejct your switching request.

    4. If your normal bank has a computer failure, having a spare debit card from another bank could be handy!

I don't understand why. You don't have to use it.
