The web address of the Gardening board has now been changed from https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/greenfingered-moneysaving to https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/gardening so that it is in line with the board's current name. Don't worry though, the old address will still redirect you here, but it's worth updating it in your saved links or browser favourites.

The galvanised ones they sell at Wickes are quite nice - think they're Chillington, vaguely remember they're something like £29.99
Sturdy, nice bouncy tire, eventually the wheel squeaks which sets off the elderly black lab two doors up :-)
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
My mistake - actually £46 (but as Wickes helpfully points out - only 46p a litre)

Sure they had some in Aldi for around £25 last Tuesday, but looks like once you're a couple of days past their "special events", computer says "I dunno guv"...0

Haemmerlin barrows are wide and nicely balanced, but not any more robust than others. I bought my wife one in pink plastic for her birthday, but they come in other materials.
My Chillington is narrower and not so well balanced, but it's been going since the World Cup before last. B&Q sold thousands in England colours, but when England were eliminated, the price plummeted to £16.50. I wish I'd bought three!
Just about all the tyres they fit to barrows are rubbish, so I replace with a trailer tyre as soon as the first puncture happens. Some people like the puncture-proof tyres, but our builder has one on his and it's much harder to push.
Good job you didn't ask about something complex, like shovels, or I'd have been here all day! :rotfl:0 -
I have nothing much to offer about makes, styles or quality, however I was taught that the 'correct' way to use a wheelbarrow is to push it when it's full and to pull it when it's empty.
Apparently it saves time to turn yourself round rather than turn the wheelbarrow round! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I got one from here recently and its a really good quality British made one.

I got mine (a galvanised silver one with pneumatic wheel) from homebase. It was £40 but didn't want to go too expensive as it's only for my allotment. It's withstanding abuse from the kids so seems to be decent enough.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

If you are going to be tipping a lot of stuff out make sure it has a bar round the wheel for this some don't as I found out with my very first very cheap one but generally any standard builders one does me as it does not get that much use in our small garden.0
