buying a property in Bexleyheath

Thanks in advance for any tips you may be able to give me.

I am thinking of buying a property on Sandford Road in Bexleyheath (DA6), can anyone comment on the nearby area - as regards safety, primary schools, noise, transport etc?

I heard Bexleyheath Train Station could be very crowded in the rush hours. I am working in the city and will need to take train on weekdays.

Also, is it easy to find a lodger in Bexleyheath area, any particular websites? I had a look at spareroom.co.uk but it seems that the posts relating to Bexleyheath is far less than other areas. Getting a bit worried now.

Any comments welcome :)

I don't know that particular road, but in general this is bog standard safe suburbia. I used to commute from a couple of stops further up the line towards london and reckoned it was the last stop where you could get a seat. Mind you this was pre London Bridge mess.

There is no such thing as a commuter line into London that isn't crowded.

PS as far as public transport is concerned, there are zillions of bus routes from the clock tower.

You'll be living near my mum!

Sandford road is fine, fairly quiet, although parking may be a problem, it's probably on a parking permit scheme as you'll be near to the station. The train service is no better or worse than any other line, as the above poster said, they're all crowded in the morning!

Bexleyheath broadway is full of bars and pubs which means it can get busy and noisy at weekends. I don't think that you're too near to any particularly raucous places, the Volunteer is quite a nice pub if you get the chance to visit it.

There are buses aplenty which go along the Broadway, you can easily get to the surrounding areas. There are some very good secondary schools (including the one that I attended!), and some of the primary schools are good, I'm not sure which is the nearest to you but Brampton Primary (which I also attended, many years ago) is reckoned to be very good, according to people that I know who have children there now.

It's a quiet, normal surburban town, it's seen by folk who live in my area as a "step up" so I don't think you'll have any problems with living there. They have a fabulous Primark too (and a M&S if you're more comfortable with that!)

If you want a lodger, you could try advertising in the local papers, people will always want a place to live that is near to a train station. It's slap bang inbetween two hospitals too, (Queen Elizabeth at Woolwich and Queen Mary's at Sidcup) and many med students look for lodgings when they're studying/working. I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding a lodger. It's probably not on the spare room websites as it is sometimes seen as too far from London.

Thanks a lot for your comment, I was hoping the train journey being better than the tube journey - had enough with smelly people :p

Many thanks for your comments, glad to know that I will be living near your mum :)

Actually the property is very near the broadway side, a little worried that it would be noisy in the nights as many vehicles passing by.

Haven't been to Volunteer, but definitely will visit it. Need to visit Danson Park too!

The nearest primary school is Upland, hope it's as good as Brampton.

It's a good idea to advertise on the local paper, do I need to wait till move in? Is it "Bexley Times" or "Bexley Web"? These are the results from google search.

I might try to post on Asda advert board too.

Thanks again, very kind of you :)
