Good Morning Folks

A few days ago my wife managed to scratch our car from the driver's side near the wheel arch and some parts of the back bumper. The bumper is colour coded and the paint is metallic.
If I take it to the local garage, it's most likely they would recommend an expensive method of getting rid of the scratches.
Could someone be kind enough to suggest the best way of getting rid of the scratches or a local garage who would give me an honest opinion?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • Depends on the scratch and numerous other factors. Post some decent pictures to help out.

if the scratches are through the paint then the only way to sort it is to repair and respray it

if they are just surface scratches then they may polish out

I could recommend and excellent local garage in mid wales but no good if you don't live in wales, Give us a clue where you are and you may get some sensible suggestions
  • If the scratches are through the paint, nothing but a respray will do.

As said, if you are through to primer then there is little you can do. You could have a smart repair but I don't hear great things about the man in van type companies who stick a tent on your driveway and a proper bodyshop will have the facilities to do a better job but it is going to cost that bit more.

If they are just in the clear coat then buy a good quality polish and have a go yourself or take it to a professional valeter or to a bodyshop who will have all the necessary gear to be able to rectify it. Polishing by machine will always be more effective than by hand.

How old is the vehicle and what colour is it?

You don't say how good a result you want? You can always rub paint into a scratch but it will look crap

Another taxi driver in a school carpark had "Lady Dog" (but not the polite term) scratched into the bare metal on a flat panel, black paint (not metallic) and paid £300 for a cover up

one wonders what she had done....

S's other have said to completlying remove scratch respray is the only real option, but can tidy them up and protect the metal work without too much work. His vids shows the far end of doing stuff but you do it by hand.
