    I cant see why virus attack would be a huge task to sort out.
    If you completely reinstall your OS to a clean drive the virus should be gone.
    I agree with the above, give it a go.
    Download the Antivirus and firewall progs first and save to disc ,dont forget to back up your important stuff.Then once you are back up and running you can enable the antivirus and firewall stuff without having to go and download them first,so lessening the risks.

    Hi, More thanks to everyone.

    Just thought I'd mention that the PC was 'protected' by AVG, ZoneAlarm and Spybot. Sadly this did not stop the virus attack even though I was updating and using constantly.

    People on MSE are so very helpful. Hats off to all.
