Fly to Venice for a holiday in Verona/Lake Garda?

We're looking to spend a week around the Verona or Lake Garda area (the bit near to Verona) but have managed to find the best flight prices to Venice rather than Verona. I was just wondering if anyone has been to both destinations - do you think it is reasonable to fly to Venice to stay in Verona/Lake Garda? How long is the drive approx?

I know they're not a million miles apart but would it be a lot of hassle? We're trying to get flights from Manchester but we're also q aware that there aren't many and may have to go from London.

    Hello

I stayed in Desenzano on Lake Garda last year.

I flew from Bournemouth to Verona and the transfer time was about an hour.

Desenzano is the main town and it is on the southern end of the lake.

There is a train service from Venice to Desenzano which might be worth looking in to. Venice is approx 2 hours drive away.

I thought the resort was ideal for getting around as the lake boat services operate from Desenzano as the main base.

It is a beautiful place and I will definitely be going back for another visit.

I travelled alone on a package with Thomsons mid June.

Good luck and have a wonderful time and be sure to sample the many flavours of ice cream!!!

We flew into Venice and then caught the train to Verona and stayed on night and then the bus to Lake Garda, from the Airport there is a bus to the train station. On the return we caught the train from Lake Garda to Venice I did prebook the rail tickets online and you did get reserved seats, which we need on the way back as the train was really full.

We flew to Venice and stayed at Lake Garda a few years ago. I can't remember how long the journey was by car, but I can remember that it was quite a pleasant drive with good roads. Excellent view of Venice from the air as we came in to land!

A couple of years ago it took me about 2 hours to drive from Venice to Malcesenine via Pescheira junction on the motorway.

    Hi,
I am Italian (living in UK) and I come from a town not far from lake Garda (south).

If you stay for a week, it is ok flying to Venice and then move to Verona/Lake Garda. It will take you a couple of hours by car or by train, from Venice to Verona. Then about 30 minute from Verona to lake Garda.

If you go to the lake by train, you can go to Peschiera or Desenzano, which are the two biggest towns in the south. I'd recommend a visit to Sirmione and its Spas.
Then, if you like to see more you can take a ferry and visit the north of the lake, both sides.

If you need any info, just ask me:cool: .

    Have a nice holiday!

we did the same last year, wonderful hols, we drove from Rome to Lake Garda spent 4 days there and then to Verona/Venice. We had tom tom in the car so the driving was piece of cake, if i recall correctly drive from Lake to Venice was touch over 3 hours.
As Egghi suggusted while in Garda must visit Sirmione and its Spas, we hired a boat for couple of hours to go round Sirmione.
