Recovering deleted SMS/text messages

I mistakenly deleted the SMS inbox on my Samsung S5 and have lost all the text messages I had.

I have been told by an independent shop that there are ways to recover the messages but that they cannot tell me which method works.

I have various software online which claim to recover SMS, but most look dubious to me.

Being wary of viruses, can anyone suggest a safe way to recover my lost text messages??

Recuva may find deleted stuff if you know its name and format .

I wouldn't have high hopes TBH - your phone has to be switched on, which means you've got a risk of overwriting the sectors inadvertently.

Going forward, you might find https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync useful - I use it, it works (backups to GMail)
