Airline delayed my bag which caused me to miss flights home

So on my journey home the 1st part involved me flying to jfk, from there I was supposed to start a run of 3 connecting flights (1 to Boston, then on to schipol and a final one to uk). However after landing in jfk I was told my bag was on the next flight in which was 3 hours later. They said they would send my bag to my hotel but obviously I was going back to uk so I couldn't, plus my house keys were in it so I didn't want to travel back without it and wait for them to deliver it. So as a result of waiting for the bag I missed all 3 of the connecting flights back to uk and had to rebook a new flight (at full cost) back home. Is there anything I can do in terms of reimbursement?

Was your flight to JFK on a separate booking? If so the airline is not liable to you for your later missed flights. Did you ask if they could put it on a later flight to the UK?

It was your choice not to fly.

    I think you'll struggle.

If all on one ticket, the airline would have forwarded your bag to the UK. You could have travelled as planned. A locksmith would surely have been cheaper than new flights (crazy though it is to put keys in hold baggage!)
If separate tickets then this is the risk you take by booking separate tickets
You could try your travel insurance but I expect they will take the view that this was your choice not to travel so would not be covered
