PAYPAL question - missing? parcel?

Quick question for the gurus please:- I saw some books on ebay recently with the title buy 3 of the 6 for x.xx. The guy had good feedback so I sent him a message through ebay asking how I could buy all 6. He replied with a price through ebay so I paid him instantly through paypal, he withdrew them from ebay and he said he'd post them the next day (last monday).
My postman has just been today and no sign, I got a book yesterday that I had bought at the same time so I know that the post is messed up still after the strike and I just have sent the seller a polite e-mail asking to confirm when they sent it and am waiting for a reply.
I'm hoping everthing will be ok, but if the books don't turn up, the seller ignores me etc can I sort this out with Paypal? I wrote on the payment "for the 6 x books" and still have the emails that were sent, would this be enough for him to have to prove he had sent them?
Thanks for any help.

how long ago was this?
you could open a paypal dispute..... you can always close it if they arrive, but otherwise it will restrict what he can do with his paypal accountsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Did he actually set up an auction for the 6 books.i.e did you actually go through ebay?
At the moment the post is erratic to say the least so don't panic yet!:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -
POstal strike see other threads on here. It is carnage with the Royal mail just now you will just need to be patient with this. It would be unfair to start a dispute at this stage.
The only question I would have is does he maintain good comms with you. You say he said he would post them next day, from that it would appear you have not asked him if he did.
Talk to him first!!!0 -
It sounds like an off ebay deal, but all is not lost - you should be covered by paypal. As has been said, contact the seller. Without knowing the date of purchase, it's hard to say whether the books may have been caught up in the strike action... but consider it probable! My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Thanks all for the answers, I see from the other posts that mail has been taking a "while" to say the least
. Its only been 9 days so by some standards not long at all. I did buy off ebay as the option wasn't there for all 6 books that I wanted, and the buyer then removed them from ebay. I put in the payment remarks on paypal it was for 6 xxxx books. I did email the seller just today so I'll be happy to wait a while for a reply as he's still selling on ebay and I'm as certain as I can be that he's genuine. It was mainly just that I wondered if paypal would cover me without the full item number and description that ebay offers.
Again thanks for the help. You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...0 -
Erm I've just noticed in my last post when I put "xxxx" books the "xxxx" stood for the series of books and not of the "educational" variety. Honest. You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...0
