Hi does anyone know if it is possible to get the Internet but without a phone line? I am cancelling my contract with Virgin media today due to disgusting customer service, but looking online I can see that they're one of few that offer fibre optic broadband?
Thanks x

I only have an iPad and iPhone so the Internet would be just for the iPad, but I have 3G on my phone x0

To tether the ipad to iphone just turn on Personal Hotspot in Iphone Settings then when you view settings on your Ipad you will see your iphone as an available wifi network. Enter the wifi password (you'll see it on your ipad Personal Hotspot screen), and it should connect.
I find mine disconnects after a few mins if I put the ipad down for any reason. Even on 3g it's useable for surfing, but sometimes slow.0 -
If you're quite close to a nearby house and can get a good signal from their wireless router, you might be able to cadge internet usage from them...0

Have you not heard of 4G, or even HSPA+?enfield_freddy wrote: »without either of those you are tied to use 3g internet via a mobile phone communication's supplier
OP he neglected to tell you that without the owner's permission, this is a criminal offence. If you're quite close to a nearby house and can get a good signal from their wireless router, you might be able to cadge internet usage from them...0 -
We are talking about the OP's location, not yours, and to give out such a sweeping statement to somebody who is obviously not tech savvy is just plain irresponsible.enfield_freddy wrote: »yes I have , however in my location , it is a dream that might come true one day
the answer did detail the options tho ,0 -
Realistically you only have the option of Virgin Media or 3G/4G mobile broadband. Satellite is expensive and crap. A few other areas have local providers that offer wireless broadband or fibre to the home, but these are extremely rare.
However these days it's cheaper the get a LandLine + ADSL than it is to get just broadband from Virgin Media.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

Virgin BB should be compaired with other fibre services such as BT & Sky. If you just need a fast fibre connection and don't want or need a landline VM does work out cheaper. If it's reliable is another question as I've not used VM.0 -
To 'cadge' is to "Ask for or obtain (something to which one is not strictly entitled)", thus obtain something from the owner with their agreement.Kernel_Sanders wrote: »

Since the owner has undoubtedly changed their wireless access password, they would have to give the OP that information.0 -
john , don,t bother arguing with people that know it all , let them think they know it all ,0

I use VM and have no phone line. I use VoIP instead. VM is slightly cheaper if you dont need a phone, but not by much. The others insist on you having a phone, even if its fibre.
You could try a 3 or 4g modem if you get a good connection where you are, most don't though.0
