I did get quotes for the Solaredge but as running the ethernet was gong to be awkward and the shade is only an issue at the end of the day in spring/winter it didn't seem worth the extra £400ish.
Some of the SMA inverter support Bluetooth which doesn't seem to as affected by the wall insulation.
On a 12 panel installation the solaredge should only be about £150 to £200 more, that's the difference in retail cost anyway and anyone charging more is trying to pull a fast one.
Take a look for yourself on this site http://www.swithenbanks.co.uk/shop.php?action=index

Looking back at my spreadsheet (which I intend to share here eventually) the Solaredge quote was £200 more than the SMA quote, but I think the quote didn't include the Geo II, which essentially means it's about £300 more.

    Latest quote:
    12x LG300N1C-B3 MonoX Neon panels
    SMA Sunny Boy 3600TL
    Geo Solo III
    iBoost
    bird proofing
    four year installation warranty
    £6560

It was £6410 with the Geo II but having read the blurb on the III today I fancy it. I can see there's a £120 difference between them on swithenbanks so I guess the extra £30 is for the additional installation work as it doesn't jump clamp on. :)
The other two supplier quotes I had (excluding the four year installation warranty) for the Geo II system were £7750 and £6500.

The sum of the parts (excluding clamps, cables, bird proofing, etc) on swithenbanks comes to £3448.60.

It's basically uPVC meshing (some suppliers use chicken wire, etc) that's fixed to the rail framework around the edge to prevent pigeons going underneath.

We spotted pigeons going under a pv system on a roof in a nearby street. Their neighbour's pv system had wire mesh round the edge which prompted us to ask if it was something the suppliers we got quotes from offered.

It's probably something I could add myself but two of the suppliers offered to throw it in, the other quoted £189.

If the pigeons are anything like the fat !!!!!!s who swing on my aeriel then I'd question the mounting used for those other panels, they must be a fair way off the roof?!

    Indeed.

We were going to have a big gap when we were looking at the Panasonic panels as they required cross railing so they could be installed in landscape orientation. Shouldn't be such an issue now, but we do have lots of magpies and pigeons in the neighbouring trees and I'd rather not give them any opportunity to set up home in our garden.

What is an installation warranty? We have a 10 year workmanship warranty - is that the same thing?

I think so. Standard was two. Was offered ten as part of another system quote. For the recent quotes it's four.

When you are getting quotes, do you actually tell them what you are looking for?
I only ask because with the knowledge you're gaining off this forum you should by now be able to assert yourself and get all these added extras thrown in!!

Our installer included the workmanship warranty in their price - there was no extra charge for it.
