S&S ISA or not?

The answer is on the link above.
"If a link has a * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment to the site. It's worth noting this means the third party used may be named on any credit agreements."0 -
Basically, the list is not a recommendation. Its a limited selection of providers that can pay this site for business placed via its referral link.
It also cannot be a recommendation as
a) this site does not have the required regulatory permissions to give advice
b) the analysis they did would fail advice standards (too limited, not personalised and only includes those that pay a commission. It does not consider off platform options either)
If you are going to DIY, you need to be a bit more careful on how you do your research.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Basically, the list is not a recommendation.
But most/all people totally new to S&S ISA would take it as that because they are very unlikely to be aware of the relevant legislation, and they'd just follow MSE articles as MSE have a reputation for giving good advice.
Many unanswered questions there.0 -
I remember that for a long time MSE wouldn't go anywhere near recommending investment products, despite stating they'd had requests to do so. I believe it was only after ownership of the site changed hands that the infamous S&S ISAs guide went up.0

But all it is showing is a list of platforms.
The person buying would still need to choose an investment. Can there be a mis-selling situation for a platform where no investment is shown?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

a very short one at that. with only one of the listed platforms not paying a referral fee by the looks of it.But all it is showing is a list of platforms.
there is no mis-selling of investments but lots of unanswered questions around why people are not being told they need to select their investments, and to be sure the platforms actually do let them select the investments they want. The person buying would still need to choose an investment. Ok, let me rephrase... for a long time MSE wouldn't go anywhere near recommending anything relating to investing...And they still don't. They just list those investment platforms that pay referral money. With one exception, that is, assuming the asterisking is working as intended - Halifax.
you choose an S&S provider without k0 -
sorry, my editing mechanism has let me down!!!What does k mean?
I was going to launch into why selecting an S&S ISA provider all depends on what you want to invest in when I realised I was just going to repeat what had been said lots of times already in much better words on this forum.
Then my ability to efficiently operate the delete key let me down. I shall forever hang my head in shame:think:0
