Silent alarm clock?

I'm trying to find a silent alarm clock- silent in that it does not tick each second with the volume of a Grandfather clock.
I looked on Amazon and a few other places and it seems these flimsy looking alarm clocks start at the £10 mark and move upwards.

I know there are digital models; I am not looking for a digital model I just want an alarm with an additional alarm hand I simply move to when I want it to wake me.

I currently have a little £2.99 model from Argos; adding an additional £7+ for a feature I don't want (the ticking time-feature) just seems a bit much; and even then there are people reporting that they aren't even silent anyway! Does anyone know any worth looking at?

    Thanks,

I'd seen that clock on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Travel-Silent-Movement-Snooze-Colour/dp/B005IPSE1Y/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1428837562&sr=8-6&keywords=silent+alarm+clock but reviews seem very much like they like the clock but that it is not silent and whirs or ticks every second. I have a bedside table which the clock would be on, it's inches from my head so I think I'd end up hearing any noise from a clock. Do you find yours really is silent?

Slightly off track, but I've simply started using the alarm function on my mobile phone to wake me in the mornings

Acctim sweeper alarm clocks are all silent - the second hand 'sweeps' and doesn't tick.

I do the same, but I always switch plane mode on, as I've been woken when some inconsiderate person sent me a text or email at 3am

    Thanks for that.
I've avoided using my mobile as an alarm for that very reason.
I can put it on silent, but if someone rings it still makes a noise to alert me to the fact.
Never even crossed my mind to put it on plane mode!

I'm going to sound really akward here...I don't mean to, but there is a method to my madness!

I have insomnia. I sleep but struggle to fall asleep and wake up easily-until it gets to 8am after which I struggle to hear any sort of alarm, it drives me mad! Often I go to bed and don't sleep at all. My sleeping is very messed up and I've had to take advice from professionals on it as it's that bad it has a huge impact on my day to day life.

I have had (too many) educational lessons and read books or articles on sleeping and sleep hygiene. One of the 'tips' given is to take out all electronic items in your bedroom, which I have done. This is why everything I have is pared down and no digital items are allowed. I have a ticking clock (that ticks too loudly) and a light and everything else exists without the need of a plug or blue-lighting. For this reason I am wary of using my mobile.

I know I could use my phone, I have no concerns over it going off in the night because there is no signal near me and I can't get any calls as a result. I just don't want to use anything digital as an alarm clock. If I start to I go against all the advice thrown at me by various professionals and risk being told I'm not trying hard enough/wasting their time because I've gone against their instructions.

Entirely random, and probably not allowed on account of it being digital, but I have a Fitbit which you wear on your wrist, and you can set it to function as an alarm clock and vibrate at a certain time.

If I had the money for a fitbit, I'd probably get one of those alarm clocks which wakes you with "daylight" (from a bulb) rather than a shrill and ear piercing scream! ;)
    But thanks for the thought!
