Creditors have sent me a standing order form

Options
Hi,

I've just started a self managed DMP. A couple of creditors have forwarded me a standing order form to complete and return. But, I would have thought I would be responsible for setting up a SO arrangement because it is not a direct debit? The creditors bank details are also on the form.

Any advice gratefully received.

Correct. You set up a standing order yourself with your bank. They are phishing.

I am a bit confused here - how are they phishing if they are creditors and there is a DMP?

don't give them it you don't need to, you can set up the standing order yourself.
  • Use the details they provide to setup your standing order for the correct amount and then think no more of it. Absolutely no need to be concerned, this is all par for the course when you're self-managed.

They have just sent it as an option for you, you don't have to use it, just set it up from your own account using the details provided, that way you retain control over the amount and frequency of payments, instead of them.

You would normally fill in the standing order form and send to your bank. (Or use the details to set it up online from the letter)
Many companies send a standing order form if asked for bank details by a customer as it's the quickest automated letter for them to send out containing required information

Thanks for the replies.. I was confused when they sent out the form requesting that I fill i my bank details when they have also provided their bank details (to set up SO). They asked me to return the form to them which is not needed if I set the payment up myself... They wouldn't be able to set up a SO on behalf so I'm guessing they want my details to set up a DD. Don't want to risk them changing the payment amount although I've never been in a situation where this has happened.

Some will forward the form to your bank for you. May as well do it yourself.

letting agents do this a lot, to make sure you actually set it up
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
