A friend has just been through this - you cant get any item seized back until after the Trial and perhaps not even then depending on what sort of evidence was seized and what the Crime was.

Generally though, you can go to the Police station after the verdict and recover items. You may hve to wait for them to FIND the items.

Our friend was fobbed off continually for months until they admitted they'd destroyed them 'accidently' despite his letters asking for them back after the Trial. But thats the Police for you,

He put in a Claim for Compensation and they coughed up.

That also happened to a friend of mine. Police took his widescreen tv which had no connection to what they had came to his house for... They also took it because he didnt have any 'receipts'.

They also said they took it as it was around the time of the riots... -_-

long story short, police said they had 'destroyed' it where there was no claim or issues raised about a 'stolen tv'...

he got about £1800 back from the police after he coughed up for a private solicitor...

see the madness police can do when they enter your property? take whatever they want and say some bullcrap lie? absolute blood boiling stuff.

I mean who keeps receipts for belongings nowadays

saying that, do police officers get commission when they charge someone? successfully prosecute someone? always wondered that

Constables get entered into a monthly prize draw for a weeks all inclusive bed and breakfast to Blackpool

Sergeants get entered into the same monthly draw, but they get a weeks villa hire in France, they can use an impounded vehicle to get there and back.

Inspectors get entered into a separate draw but they can choose either a long weekend in a 5* Hotel in London including dinner and two tickets to a show, or a weekend at Centreparcs

If the officer takes the prize, and then the offender appeals and the conviction is overturned, the officer, Constable or Sergeant, (but not the Inspector) gets transferred onto the community speed team, and then they have to pay back the commission they get for every speeding motorist they convict, until the value of the original prize is repaid, oh and they have to pay interest

Especially when your stopped at three in the morning wearing a pair of brand new Nike trainers, running up the road with a 55" TV on your shoulder with all the neighbouring buildings ablaze, and you and your mates are wearing masks, gloves and hoodies, just to keep out the cold ! Yeah who doesn't keep receipts and guarantees, I ask you, what were the police thinking ;)

You seem to have a lot of friends who've done nothing wrong but keep getting visits from the police..they always seem to " know their rights"..
Mind you , I have noticed this with a convicted criminal- it never seemed to be their fault:D

I think you also have to bear in mind that "The friend" may have been shopping when the store was closed and there was nobody there to issue a receipt :D

I had my phone confiscated when i was convicted of harassment.

They were not allowed to return it to me until the sentence was given in court and then i think the 28 day period in which you can appeal the sentence

After that i got it back
