hi all, newbie here!
i believe i was missold ppi on cards and loans, but have no details at all! i had a debenhams and evans cards, and a barclaycard- in the late 90s through to maybe 2003ish?? i have no paperwork at all though, and not sure who to write to- is it santander now?
i also had a loan with lloyds in about 2004/5, but when i rang they said its no longer on their records and i have to write to the DSAR team, who said it will cost me £10 to get the info. is this normal practise? im not against paying the £10, but will avoid if possible! im surprised its not on their normal records as it will only have been paid off in maybe 2009.
or is there somewhere i can get all the relevant info from in one swift movement? like the experian credit place??
any advice greatly appreciated- im a bit baffled by it all if im honest!
thanks.

Who do you think has missold you PPI, when and why? All you do is write a letter of complaint to them outlining the relevant complaint reasons.
As regards LLoyds this is one of the biggest stupidities of bank call centre staff. If they have records then they have to use them as part of any investigation and should not be attempting to charge you for it. If they don't then writing to another department isn't going to make then magically appear. They are trying to be helpful as they don't want to come out and tell you there's nothing they can do but are just complicating things unnecessarily.0 -
To address your points
1) Finance products like store cards sold before 2005 were not regulated, the firm can dismiss the complaint without looking at it. You can then try whoever runs the card now (who will probably reject it as well as they didn't sell it you) then try the underwriters - a long and likely futile task as you don't have any records left and chances are the stores will have deleted them given it's 12 years since - I'd forget these.
2) Barclaycard and Lloyds would be covered but again with no records it would be tough. You do have to send the DSAR to the bank for copies of their old records - the bank is allowed to charge it and it's your only way to see what they have left on you after these accounts were closed - typically 6 years after an account was closed data will be archived or deleted in line with the DPA - that may be why front line staff cannot see it if it's been closed so long but maybe it's flagged as archived or something on their screen?
3) Your last 6 years of credit will be on your credit record with the likes of Noddle/ Experian/Equifax but these will just show you who you had it with not any details.
4) Lastly do note that simply having PPI (which you don't even know you had as you have no records to show it) is not wrong, if you wish to get a refund you have to complain about it being miss-sold and be able to show why it was not suitable or required.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
