My hair is falling out:/

Hi does anyone know any tips for hair growth while under stress? My hair has become thin over the past 3-4 months, to the point where I can see my scalp on some parts. This is terrifying for me and is making my stress worse!

Thanks x

Sorry, I cant help you directly, but 4 years ago my sister was suffering from stress and she was finding clumps of her hair falling out.

In 2012 she started wearing something called a hair system and has continued since. While its not her natural hair, it has given her a full head of hair and her confidence back.

Mine is exactly the same. My hair on the sides is thick but right on the front top it's so thin it's more like through road than a parting :-( no idea what to do about it. I was quite sick some time ago and it never recovered. Had blood tested and nothing specific showed up and Dr just shrugged their shoulders basically

I'm so sorry to hear you're suffering with hair loss. Though I can't provide any help on what to do about the hair loss itself, I can recommend a product called Toppik. It's a cosmetic treatment and it was a gosdend to me when my hair was thinning. It's similar to a powder but it's actually minute hair fibres which bond to your own hair thereby thickening your hair and disguising the thin parts.

It's not cheap but it does last a while (depending on how much you used, of course). Worth a look at least, perhaps. It made me so much less self conscious about my hair loss.

    Good luck.

I had a lot of hair loss a few months back. It was so upsetting and I was shedding masses of it all the time. I did some research and started taking certain supplements. One was horsetail which I'd used years ago to try to grow my hair. The others were selenium, B complex vitamins (Asda energise, it's like own brand Berocca), high strength vitamin C and vitamin D3.

It might be just a coincidence but the hair loss stopped. It did take a few weeks to notice anything and hair takes a long time to grow but now I just shed the normal amount. I'm still worried in case it happens again so I understand how stressful it is for you. Obviously everyone is different. It would be best to speak to your doctor about this first.

Wigs seem very fashionable now too. My cousin always wears a wig despite having lovely natural hair! She just likes them, and enjoys the versatility of having different styles and colours. I had a look at some and they really are gorgeous and totally natural looking. Some of them you can swim and sleep in. They are quite expensive though.
  • An alternative health care book I recently bought say about an aromatherapist who had this problem and tht within 3 months she spotted new hair growing.

I haven't got round to trying it yet myself, but fwiw she used:

1 tablespoon jojoba oil, 3 drops rosemary oil, 3 drops lavender oil, 1 drop lemon balm (Melissa) oil, 1 drop Atlas cedarwood oil. Made up in a glass bowl and using wooden or plastic tools to mix.

She said she massage it into scalp with fingertips and left on 30 minutes or overnight. Then shampoo (adding 1 drop rosemary to each shampoo application). Final rise - add 1 drop lavender oil and 1 drop rosemary to quart of cool water.

As I said - I cant vouch for it....but it could be worth a try.

Part of the reason I haven't got round to it yet being I have thinning eyelashes and eyebrows too and that doesn't look like something I could use on them, so still feeling a bit stymied there.

Let us know how it goes if you do decide to try it.
  • There is a form of alopecia that is triggered by stress. It sounds as though your stress is the cause so would mean that until this changes yur hair wont.

I am a level 2 hairdresser, I would suggest a trip to your gp to discuss this. Good news is there are lots of alternative therapies you can try, eating a healthy diet and if it really comes to it there are hair systems you can use that will help Lucinda Ellersly are one company I know of that specialise in hair loss replacement.

    Hope this helps.

About 5 years ago when I was stressed at work, I had problems with my hair falling out - I had a couple of bald spots.

I went to the doctors and he prescribed cortisone cream. I used this for a couple of months and the hair grew back.

Perhaps you could go back to the doctors and ask for some cream?

But it was a wake up call - I took a look at my life and had to take steps to reduce my stress levels

  • You could book an appointment to see a tricologist who can check your scalp and review your lifestyle.

I saw a dermatologist who advised that you need to keep iron and B12 levels slightly above normal and eat plenty of protein as these are the main building blocks for the body to make hair.
