Not suggesting everyone gets rid of their cars but this helped me out loads. My old car had one months MOT left, had an estimate of £500  to get it through in August (minimum!)
Luckily my mum came to my rescue and gave me her old one but that left me with the problem of how to scrap my bucket of bolts with windscreen wipers held on by cable ties.
Someone told me about www.webuyanycare.com so i filled in the form online and took it along. They said it was the worst car they had EVER seen. They would end up making a loss as it was only good for scrap, however as their name is 'we buy any car 'they legally have to make me an offer, and the minimum is £50 :T so instead of paying to have it taken away I made money. yippee

Funnily enough we sold our car through these on the weekend!
We had a company car and wanted rid of it, I thought it was a bit of a scam as we had to take it to car craft and I suppose it is a useful lead. We got an online valuation of £1465 but when inspected it came down to £1250 so not too bad it was a W Astra at least it gave us pennies to put in an ISA for when we next need to buy one.0 -
Just for a laugh I thought I'd see what they'd give me for the Eunos I am selling... let's just say it was about 60% less than the list price (and what it will sell for easily) - if I was to advertise it for that price my number would be innundated! But I guess for cars you wanna scrap they are not a bad placeDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

To be honest our book price was only 2k and we didn't want the hassle of test drives, we have a lot of hospital visits to do and time is limited. Also it would need taxing next month and the exhaust and brake pipes changing. So it was hassle free cash in the bank. Much better than an auction risk which was the other consideration we had.
That and my hubby is uselessly honest! Shall I tell them about the ping noise and why the engine management light comes on - we had to find another option lol!0 -
These companies are not charities - they are in the business to make money and their 'valuers' are trained in the skill of knocking you down from the 'online' valuation, safe in the knowledge that you are desperate to sell. I remember horrendous threads about this type of company, in the past.
That said - if you are happy with the price they offer, that is the most important thing.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
