recommend a food processor?

Our little food mixer has died. It's making a horrible screeching noise when we try to whizz up food in it. We seem to get through quite a few of these little 2-in-one mixers and I'm now wondering if it might be better to save up for a proper food processor.

Does anyone here use a food processor, and is there one you can recommend? (or any I should avoid!)

I gather they are quite expensive, but I'm thinking that the little mixers aren't really man enough for the job and I'm having to keep throwing them away or replacing parts, so it might be better to bite the bullet and get a proper food processor.

Magimix all the way here. I am still using the one I bought 30 years ago. I am on my second little one in 10 years - handy when doing very small quantities but no comparison with a proper one

If you are looking for a processor which isn't too expensive I would recommend this one:

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2054030.htm

It comes with a food processor and a range a attachments e.g. grater, slicer, whisk, dough tool etc and liquidiser. It's very compact compared to many, easy to clean and sturdy.

It's not very clear if you're looking for a blender, stand mixer or food processor (or an all-in-one gadget that can do all of those).

We have a Magimix blender which is excellent, a KitchenAid stand mixer which is also excellent, and a Kenwood food processor (not one of the more expensive models, quite possibly the argos link above although I'm not sure) which seems to do the job, although I don't use it much (my wife uses it more).

The Magimix and KitchenAid are great pieces of kit, but they don't come cheap.

Yes the MagiMix might have to wait till I win the lottery, lol.

What I tend to use it for is making home-made hummus (so whizzing up chick-peas, etc), grinding up bread into breadcrumbs, whizzing up pesto and things like that. I would like to make home-made felafels, too.

I should add it also gets used to make home-made banana ice-cream out of frozen banana pieces, which is how it broke this morning :o

I have a stick blender which is good for soup, and I have an electric whisk for making cakes and mashing potatoes, which (touch wood) is still going strong!

We got ours from a local shop the sells ex display, repo and returned items for discounted prices. I think we paid £20 for a panasonic model. It certainly isn't the nice bit of kit that some are, but we largely use ours for purposes similar to those you name and it is fine. It was ex display and missing a few attachments but I honestly haven't found anything that I couldn't do with the blades it did have. We have a stand mixer for other things and a £5 supermarket immersion blender that has been going strong for 8 years now.

Sorry, but going to have to go with the general consensus and say get a Magimax. Superb in every respect.
  • Unless you are looking into a chef quality food processor which is far more expensive, just go with a good brand name. Cuisinart, Hamilton Beach, and KitchenAid are all solid options.

Magimix is fab, I've had it for years, Mum's is still going strong and she has had hers a lot longer than I have!

This thread is from 2015 so 4 years old. Think the OP would have sorted something out by now!
