I did invoice them each month for the same sum every month. I have an accountant sorting out my tax returns, yes.
  • What about deductible expenses? This is one of the benefits of being self employed, all the more if the amount is high. I am self-employed so would invoice only for hours actually worked. If I realised that I had been a 'disguised employee' all along, I would try to estimate how much extra tax I might have to pay before trying to get treated as an employee.

I had my own tools, plus travel to and from work, though my accountant said that HMRC might take the view that I was employed and therefore not class travel as an expense.

If you were employed then you were entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks holiday per year, so you may be entitled to claim for a proportion of that for the current company holiday year, unfortunately I don't believe it would be possible to do so for previous years.
  • As a Temporary worker I wasn't eligible for holiday pay and it went unpaid.. so watch out for that argument because I'd believe anything that goes on

In today's market it comes down to what you accept or dare to refuse I'm afraid

Yeah, I regret taking the job in all honesty. The low pay and poor holiday I could accept considering the type of work it was (vintage aircraft) and the fact I wasn't planning on staying long. The treatment I received has left me feeling very bitter though. Makes me angry how employers treat their staff these days.

What would be the next step then if I wanted to escalate things? My old boss has said he doesn't intend on revisiting the conversation and he is now ignoring all my emails. I emailed him and told him bluntly that I expect an explanation as to why I'm being singled out but he doesn't seem to want to answer...
