Car tax help!!!
Hi
I have tried calling DVLA but keep getting told to callback as busy.
My pop recently passed and has left his car to me, I have changed insurance but not sure what to do about tax, I know it was taxed for a year, but dont know if its not taxed now it has changed to me.
Can anyone help please
thanks

As I understand the latest VED rules, when the vehicle changes owner the tax is cancelled and any remaining is refunded to the previous owner.
You can check the current taxation status of the vehicle on the DVLA web site: https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax0 -
Yes you need new taxChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

You should be able to just wait for them to refund you automatically.
If you want to cancel the DD work out exactly which months you've paid for and then cancel it, you will have to pay for the entire month when you sold it, so if you sold on the 6th April make sure you don't cancel April's payment, if you haven't paid it already.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

until you change the V5 , the car is taxed , officially the car has not been sold/bought , you are just using it
providing that yo still have access to your late fathers post.
not sure of the legalities here , but might give you some time to contact the DVLA etc0 -
Thanks everyone
I went into my local post office with paperwork, she taxed it for me and said my dad will get back whatever he is owed into his bank account
