Cloudy window pane

Hi,

We have a double glazed window pane in our dining room which has become cloudy and has condensation inside it. I would like to have it fixed but not sure what's involved etc and how much it might be. Any ideas?

Sound like the seals have gone. Replacement panel is the most cost effective way. Measure the unit and call some local glazing companies. Its quite straighforward to replace and should take minutes to do.

Agree, the seals have gone. I have had several windows in my house go and a few more are needed now! I have not yet found anyone locally who will repair them only replace, which is is a shame (and expensive - my are leaded throughout). Link here if you want to learn a bit more and maybe DIY?
  • Hi,

here's a wee video, looks easy enough to replace.

They are very easy to replace, it all depends on size etc. as big panes will have a fair weight to them.

Thanks everyone. My neighbour has just given me a telephone number for a man that re-gasses??? windows panes so might be able to avoid a total replacement.

The window is 3 1/2 ft wide and 2 1/2 ft in height. So not small in the scheme of things.

Most double glazing firms don't bother trying to repair leaky double glazed units. They just make a new one up to size and it takes a few minutes to swap.

That may well work out cheaper and more permanent.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I've just had a window a little larger than that size re-glazed. It cost about £47. Took less that 1/2 hour.to replace both fixed and hinged pieces.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
