insuring a house that needs rewiring

We are currently in the process of buying a house that the electrician (he did a full inspection) has said needs rewiring. the mortage provider have conducted their own building survey and are happy to lend.

However i wondered will we be covered by insurance if there is an electrical fire and it turns out to be faulty wiring?

If the electrician reckons that the wiring is dangerous enough that it's likely to cause a fire I would be asking the vendor to get the circuit made safe before you proceed any further with the purchase.

If the electrician is just trying to drum up some work because you have an older style consumer unit or rewirable fuses then I wouldn't worry too much...
