Acsess to work

Hi I have been working in my new jobs for about three weeks now, I wanted to see how I managed. Occupational health said to call acsess to work for stuff to be put in place, I can't call them because I am deaf.

My job entails that I pull notes and load them onto then system. I mainly stay in one room. I do not take telephone calls and if I need to contact another department then other staff call for me. My colleagues have been so supportive and talk clearly and to the right level for me to understand. I havent had a fire alarm test as of yet so don't know if I would be able to hear that.

What do acsess to work do. I have never had them before. Oh said to get stuff in now in case I need it for the future.

    The details are here: https://www.gov.uk/access-to-work/how-to-claim

You can email them if you have any questions.

I've emailed them but they replied saying I have to phone up or get someone else to phone. What's the point in putting email adress on the website

That's not good. Are you able to use a textphone?

Which is something they can help fund for the workplace. Is there no one who can call for you? Pain in the backside, its how they deal with many benefits claims. Not exactly user friendly.

I've tried that app doesn't work for me.

My manager is really supportive both of them and said if anyone needs to visit they can.

It's akward because of the shifts my parents do and my working day I witn get in till after half 5 which means not really worth ringing up. Crazy isn't it,

It's like I applied for pip and got cab to ring up for me. So horrible that you try to do things yourself but then get told to call up.

Access to work no longer fund hearing aids as NHS aids have improved.

They fund things like text phones, induction loops, loop and microphones to help with meetings, they can provide an interpreter for a Deaf person who needs help with an interview. They can also provide training for other staff members to understand disability.

Hope there's a suitable fire alarm for deaf individuals in the room (strobe rather than a sounder).
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

Oh that's the other thing, they can arrange for you to have a fire alarm fitted. Back in the day when I worked for asda they had someone with a watch that would vibrate if the fire alarm went off as it wasn't practical to fit strobe lights all over the shop for him.

They will usually ask the fire service what the best product is for you so a hot fireman might visit to talk to you and assess your work space.
