O/S Daily Thursday 9th April 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, but cloudy. Load ready to go out on the line.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was sausages, mash, carrots, green beans, peas, Yorkshires and gravy. Tonight we’ll be having med roasted veg tart, cous cous, stuffed jacket potatoes, and a side of chicken dippers (menfolk moan it’s not a proper meal if there’s no meat on the plate!) May need to change the menu plan as I have loads of bacon left in the fridge that is getting close to it’s use by date – so tomorrow nights’ dinner may be swapped, will decide later.

This morning I need to take my car to the garage for a service and MOT – at least that will be both cars done. Tax reminder arrived for mine yesterday so have that to pay by the end of the month also.

Work yesterday was another manic day – not helped by the fact part of the payment system went down and we couldn’t accept some forms of payment – this was still the case when I left at lunchtime. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to get it sorted!

Todays’ plan of action is take my car and return with courtesy car, then get stuck in to the washing, drying and ironing, then do some housework etc – washing is pretty much up to date – think there may be enough for another load – but everything else has been washed and dried due to being able to get it dry on the line each day. Will strip our bed and then the boys can do theirs’ either today or tomorrow.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning one and all. Another beautiful day in store for us by the looks of it.

Yesterday we got the front garden weeded, dug over, pots emptied and the pebbles raked over. It looks so much better but, apart from the daffs and tulips, it looks a bit bare. Really must get some more perennials soon to replace the ones ruthlessly dug up in the Autumn as I fancied a change!

We had lunch in the back garden, mainly bits from the fridge which needed eating up and some bacon sandwiches (bacon approaching its use by date!) so a right hotchpotch on our plates!

As soon as Mr TA gets out of it I want to strip our bed and get the wm on and the bedding out on the line. Then it's off shopping - just Ald* today as I have been good at eating from the cupboards and freezers this week so we don't need an awful lot. Plus we haven't had the DGDs this week eating us out of house and home!

Hopefully lunch outside again when we get back and then feet up with a book, enjoying this gorgeous weather whilst it lasts! The bedding can be ironed when the sun goes down!

Have a good day all, take care xx ps I have passed on the tip of Rescue Remedy to my friend with the nervous rescue dog. Neither of us knew there was a pet version available (found lots on Amazon) even though my friend is a big fan of Bach's flower remedies and rescue remedy for herself!

    Morning everyone.

Another fine day in the offing. Really enjoyed it yesterdsy, especially after the fierce storms of last week.

Found myself pruning wild roses on the verges of our tracks yesterday. We have so many that have not been cared for for years and years, hopefully the cutting back will pay handsomely in masses of blooms.

Today I will be cleaning the utility room floor and back hall floor. Eeek, they're so mucky from all the coming and goings from the garden - mud and bark chips all mixed together. Can't really leave it any longer now that the good weather is here. And I need to vacuum the living room too.

Hope everyone has a good day, looking forward to reading about it all later.
  • Good morning

Another beautiful day here, thank goodness, I feel so much brighter when the weather is sunny.

Did 2 loads of washing yesterday, all dried and put away, so have none to do today, there is only what we took off last night.

DD is officially unemployed from today. The hospital have dismissed her on the grounds of ill health, which of course she was expecting, but it was still upsetting for her. She has only ever been a nurse and she is almost 47 now, but she is being very positive. She is looking on it as another phase in her life. She is very limited in what she can do, but after the summer she is going to take some courses. Anyway we are taking her out to lunch tomorrow, can't do today because we have an A*da delivery booked between 12 and 2. It is very difficult when it is your child, isn't it, I know she is a grown woman but she was our first born and we love her dearly.

    Have a good day everyone

    Morning :hello:

camelot and donny-gal Thanks for the crate advice  A canvas one sounds ideal. I'll get a harness adapter for the seatbelt too. I can get Scampi to sit in the van quite easily, it's the car we're struggling with. Though I sat in the back yesterday, engine off, and with lots of bribes he jumped in twice. First time, straight in and out just for the treat, but the second time he sat on me for over two minutes. Progress :D

I sat on the sofa at lunchtime yesterday, next thing I knew it was 4.30pm. For a few minutes I had no idea what day it was or why I was there :rotfl: Scampi was snoring next to me, I don't know if he was tired and needed the extra sleep or he just got bored :D

I had to rush to do an online shop, luckily there were still a couple of delivery slots left so that's coming this morning.

Yesterday's first load of washing is still on the line, the second load is still waiting to go out :D Will get that sorted in a mo. The tomato plants have outgrown their pots, they need to go out today really but the weather forecast warned of freezing temps overnight at the weekend. Has anyone put their tomatoes and cucumbers out yet?

forecast is for a nice day here today I have my gardener coming this morning and also my eldest DD for a coffee. I have to pop to my DGS house to pick the youngest one up as he is my little shadow during the holidays. The other two boys are old enough to be left on their own for a short while, but Mikey is only 10 so where I am ,he is :):)
NSD thank goodness,I am saving myself to go on Sunday as I have a W8rose voucher for £6.00 off a £30.00 shop which expires on Sunday:) should get a reasonable top-up shop there

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's another beautiful day here again with the sun pouring in through the windows. I shall be getting the girls up before mid day today as they didn't go shopping yesterday and want to go today. I shall be having a shower and getting dressed and then I will see if my friend wants to come over for a coffee or maybe I will go to hers for a change of scene.

Dumpling. Are you making changes to a rented house?

Yes it is a housing association property but when we moved in 12 years ago it was a council house and we had a mutual exchange with a well known drug dealers family. The husband had killed himself and the wife and kids wanted to make a fresh start. The property was in very poor condition and we did as much as we could to decorate etc but we couldn't afford to replace the doors. After all this time I am fed up with seeing them like that so want to have new ones. If we were to move out for any reason we would be charged for new ones anyway so we might as well do them ourselves and get some joy from them.

I am very hopeful that my new power supply will be delivered today and I can have my computer back. I miss sitting next to hubby in the evening while he is playing his new game and I am surfing the web. The girls are missing having two computers to use too. Mind you they have tablets, ipods etc so they are never too far from one screen or another :).

Dinner tonight will be mash, peas and whatever I can find in the freezer. We ended up having bacon, eggs and crispy potatoes yesterday and that was very nice. My eldest DD bought me some salad so I will make a big tuna salad for lunch for everyone. I'm not really a lover of lettuce and it doesn't really like me but I can tolerate a little bit of iceberg. We have some leftover pasta which will go with it too to bulk it out.

The girls complained about being bored yesterday so I set them to scrubbing the loos and the bathroom. I don't think they will make that mistake again but they did a fabulous job :D. Actually I can't complain about them, they do a lot of chores mostly without whinging and I really appreciate it.

Well, that's all from me today, hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning all,

just a flying visit whilst i wait for my Grandson to arrive. Ive moved everything that can hurt him and tied the handles together of the cleaning cupboard (i'd buy child proof catches but i have enough of a job opening them myself so dont want them on 24/7). 6 thick elastic bands and a piece of string.:D

Had a row with hubby last night. He rings me throughout the day but rings me at night too when we are both tired and grumpy. I asked one simple question which a yes or a no would have sufficed and got a lecture.

    Onwards and forwards

    have a great day all.

    Morning All

The sun is shining again and I'm making the most of it. Washing on the line but not enough for a second load.

Yesterday I got my act together and bought paint for the fence. I bought 4 x 9 litre buckets - goodness knows what I thought I was painting! I have been all the way round (3 sides of the garden) and used a whole half a bucket! Enough for a second coat left, I'll keep another bucket for next year and return the others, at £25 a go that's a lot to get back. Silly me!

Anyway, said fence looks quite good so I will get on with planting more seeds today, bought some sad looking tomato plants cheap from Ald! which looked revived as soon as they were re-potted and watered so let's hope they survive.

Just some pottering about today enjoying the sunshine, hope you can enjoy it too. Take care. XX
