Beware 'Hotel Info' on comparison sites

On 20th March, I was looking to book a hotel in New York for 8 nights. I visited the hotel comparison page of moneysupermarket.com and was excited to see my perfect hotel going for under half the price of any other booking site through a company called Hotel Info. I clicked on the link, went through to their site and was horrified to see that the actual price was more than any other quoted online. I reported this to moneysupermarket, they looked into it and said, with apologies, that it must be a genuine mistake and they were unable to sell me a room for the price quoted, but I was welcome to book through Travel Info at the price on their site. Needless to say I didn't!
Tonight, I looked for the same dates (May 2-10 in Times Square) on trivago.co.uk and found another very good hotel (the Hilton Garden Inn) at a 'top deal' of just £109.00 a night, instead of £263.00, at... you guessed it... Hotel Info. Clicking on the view deal link, it turns out that the rate is actually $381.06 per night, or £255.74 at today's 1.49 pound to US dollar exchange rate. Even with taxes, which should be included on Trivago, it's a far cry from the rate that's clearly advertised.
It really seems that this company seem to make a lot of 'genuine mistakes' in order to be the top deal on price comparison sites and drive traffic and business to their website. Misleading Hotel Info? I think so! Please take care and don't get too excited, as I did. As Martin says, if it looks too good to be true...!

I've just looked at Trivago and the Hilton Garden Inn is back up to £259 through hotels.com. Hotel Info are nowhere to be seen... they obviously managed to sell all their £109 rooms!0
