Failed gas switch
Hi. I moved into my property in Aug 2013. In Nov 2014, I applied to switch gas + elec from Scottish Power to E.on, via moneysavingexpert. Elec went through in Jan, informed 2 weeks ago gas had failed, no reason given. Contacted E.on, I was told that they were missing some info from meter as shown as newly built property (in fact 13 years old), but person unable to shed any light on what this info was. Informed me that he could try to do switch again. I declined as unimpressed with explanation and time elapsed between requesting switch and told it had been declined. Went back to moneysavingexpert, this time Daligas shown best deal for gas, switch initiated. Just received an e-mail declining switch as follows:
Unfortunately, your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) indicates that the gas is piped to your property by an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT), where, we are not currently registered with them and therefore can't offer our daligas One tariff.
This would suggest a recurring problem trying to switch gas suplier - any ideas what I need to do to get the issue rectified?
Many thanks

Good morning dreilly13,
I'm sorry you had such trouble switching your supply.
When customers change supplier, information is sent from one supplier to another electronically. This also has to go through a third party.
Data is held about meters, supply etc on databases for all the companies to access and sometimes some of this information is missing or incorrect.
It's normally best to speak to your current supplier to get all of your information updated on to the databases.
Having said that, we can supply and support Independent gas transporter (IGT) accounts. We've a specialist team that can help with setting these accounts up and I think that's who you'll need because of the previous issue.
If you would like to try the switch again, please let me know and I'll get you in contact with the right people
Thank you

It tends to be the smaller companies that will not accept a supply transfer involving an IGT. That said, I think that Zog (and I know Ovo from past experience) will accept IGT-served properties. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Unfortunately, by choosing Daligas you picked one of the few suppliers that do not support IGT customers ... even if they tell you otherwise when you call them

All of the Big 6 suppliers always have, and many of the smaller companies do now supply customers whose gas is provided via an IGT.
(Other notable exceptions include Spark Energy and Good Energy)
Small suppliers that do support IGT customers include: Co-op, Ebico, Ecotricity, First Utility, Ovo, Utilita & Zog.
If you use a comparison site such as ukpower.co.uk, they often warn you which suppliers don't accept IGT customers (and in the case of Daligas, another thing too)
As I said, all Big 6 suppliers do support IGT customers, but in the case of a small company, best to check direct with them unless you can find definite evidence one way or the other on their own website.0 -
Same happened to me for Daligas, It's a shame MSE energy tool will not highlight this limitation when you initiate switch through there. Now my status shows switching even when Daligas rejected my switch application. wonder how that gets updated?0

Just to let you know that Npower cannot transfer to my IGT (GTC Pipline). Both parties state there are software problems and don't know were the problem is, in the end Npower cancelled my Gas. I will now go with Zog who has contacted my IGT with no problems. What I did find out for me it is cheaper not to have duel supply, it may be worth checking this out.0
