New gas surply

My parents will shortly be having mains gas connected by national grid. they are fitting a semi submerged box but no gas meter. The central heating will be fitted shortly after. My question is will my parents chosen gas suppler fit the meter and do they charge for it? Or can the heating fitters fit it? many thanks.

The gas meter is usually fitted on the same day (or immediately after) the completion of the service. They need to get in touch with a shipper of their choice (the people they pay their bill too).
They should have an MPRN from National Grid, which is a meter point reference number. This is used by the shipper to arrange the meter installation and it's usually NGM (National Grid Metering) who carry out the installation.0 -
Once the supply is fitted, they need to contact their chosen supplier to fit a meter. Some may charge for it, others not, so the best bet is for them to call around.0
