Which websites are these? And how are they blocked? Are you suggesting that the UK government is preventing access to non-illegal content?
No, the govt does not control the block lists. The last I heard it was a private entity and nobody seems to know who, which begs the question as to how this entity makes a profit.
Call me cynical, but if you had that level of power, how much would I need to pay you to block my competitors website? or a rival political party website (as happened in Russia)?
A couple of years ago I went on holiday to Portugal. whilst there we heard news of events occurring in the UK, protests if I remember correctly. None of this was covered by any of the UK news websites. Upon our return the news websites we'd been looking at were no longer accessible without going through a web proxy, we're not talking "this website has been blocked", more like a "serve not found" DNS failure.
I don't even remember what the websites were and because Google doesn't show search results containing blocked sites, good luck ever finding them.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
