Help please - odd DLA amount

My neighbour gets DLA Higher Rate for care, and it's paid into her account 4 weekly. On Tuesday, last week (31st March), £325.20 was paid into her account.

She received a letter some time ago stating that this is increasing by £1 a week, and she was due to get her next 4 weekly payment on 28th April. However, apparently £81.30 was paid into her account yesterday (7th April), and the payment is described as being DLA.

Would the DWP suddenly change her payments from 4 weekly, to weekly? Or could it be that she's being paid for one week at the old rate, and she'll then get future payments, from 4 weeks time, at the new rate?

I know I could phone the DWP, and she could give me permission to speak, but as my neighbour is deaf, these type of calls are quite difficult. That's if I can ever get through!

Any advice would be great. Thank you.

xx

No they would still pay four weekly. Does she have a end date for her award? Could it of come up for renewal and it has not been done or is she in a pip area? The only real way would be is to call the DLA unit and find out for sure. Sorry

I think DLA is paid in arrears. I was paid on Tuesday and got the rate I got last year.

Yes, I think I'll have to call them. She's 93, and has this award indefinitely. According to her, she hasn't received any communications. It just seems so odd that she would suddenly receive the weekly amount. Thanks for your help.

I've had some years where I paid 3 weeks of the old rate and 1 week of the new rate. In the yearly letter, it said that I would receive an odd amount, which was 3 weeks old rate + 1 week new rate. It was never (because I've never requested it) 1 week of DLA.

Some people do get their DLA paid weekly. But you have to ask for this.

I telephoned this morning, with Lil shouting "Ay?", several times, when they asked the security questions! They gave me a very nonsensical answer, something about "because it was the 7th"???

Personally, I think they made a mistake, and of course, nobody admits to that. They said she will get 3 weeks at the new rate on the due date. As you rightly say, if someone is getting paid 4 weekly, and the amount differs, they might get 2 weeks at one rate and 2 weeks at another, but I think this is an error.

    Thanks for the feedback.
