Garage and Credit Card! Help!

in Credit cards
I had bought a used car (5 years old) from a private garage near me just under 2 years ago. I paid for the car (using cash and part of it on Credit Card (£650)).
Now when I went to sell my car I have come to know that the car is actually a cat D. I had specifically asked the garage whether the car was involved in accidents (to which they said no).
I am reluctant to hide this fact when selling the car but this will undoubtedly have an effect on the price.
From what I have seen online, I understand that it was illegal for the garage to sell the car as they should have told me about the accident when I had asked them specifically about it. The law requires me to prove they had lied saying that the car was not involved in accident, when I enquired (which seem to be impossible to prove, unless I have written statements from them).
Any suggestions on what my options are?
Do I have any chance of claiming this under the credit card company (Barclays)?

Didn t the logbook give it awayDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

only Cat C and above is noted on logbooks as cat D doesn't require a VIC check.Didn t the logbook give it away
OP does the garage boast ALL VEHICLE WE SELL ARE HPI CLEAR on their website or on invoices.
if so and this their ethos they WOULD have known prior!. What date is the CATD listed on HPI report?0 -
It says that the vehicle was damaged on 25/01/2013.
We bought the vehicle in May 2013
Their website talks alot about repairs, servicing, bodywork etc but the cars for sale page says 'coming soon'.
We found the car through Autotrader.0 -

sounds more like a repair garage that does bodywork than a car sales.0 -
I did look for reviews of the garage but could not find any at the time.
Will call the garage tomorrow to see what their stand is.0 -
The issue you have is that you've had it a long time now.sardarfakeer wrote: »I did look for reviews of the garage but could not find any at the time.

My friends father bought a cat D (unbeknown to him at the time) orion H reg some years ago.
He went to part ex it a few years later and the car sales HPI checked it and seen it was a cat D.
He returned to the original seller, who acted surprised but due to the length of time he had it, had no other option but accept a remedy of choose another on his four court and he had to have them HPI'd, trading standards said this was a good enough remedy and they were happy enough to not get involved any further.
He ended up having some other car that was HPI clear, waiting 4 weeks for log book then part exing that one for the car he wanted in the other car sales.
My question to you is what do you want to get from this What was the price you paid compared to listed Cat D cars of the same make model and age and miles do you want the difference back or do you want them to remedy it some other way.0 -
Vehicle damaged on the 25/1. Is that the date it appears on the HPI check?
Possible it didnt appear on the register until after the dealer HPI'd it or you bought it.
They may not have known.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
