Leaving the UK - how long to get my tax back

Leaving the UK in 4weeks for a year. Got hold of a "leaving the UK" tax form which should enable me to get the over-paid tax i have paid this tax-year(by the date i leave ill have earned just under £7000 and have payed just over £1000 in PAYE). Anybody have any experiences with this process. Does anybody know how long it will take them to send out a cheque??

I'm afraid it is one of those 'how long is a piece of string' questions!

I hope its not to long...hopefully 4-5weeks like when i have applied for my tax overpay back at the end of tax years in the past.

It should not take more than 6 weeks max. If you have left the UK before the refund has been d/w, you can elect on the form P85 to have your refund paid direct into your bank account, a nominee or an address abroad (if you have one.) Don't know whether or not you have done this.
