Rant about ebay

I am a little annoyed with eBay too.
I sold my phone on there last week. Yesterday the buyer still had not paid, so I flagged an unpaid item issue and then an hour later relisted the item.
Then, the buyer paid late last night. Just as my new auction was ending.
So I got straight on to live chat and told them the situation, he told me that the new listing could not be cancelled as it is within 12 hours before the end of the auction.
He further said, I should not have relisted the item until the unpaid item issue had been resolved (so why make it an option then???)
He said that my only option was to cancel bids until the end of the auction, and to attempt to mutually resolve the issue with whoever buys it.
Needless to say this was useless and the item sold to someone, who paid me instantly. So I had to refund their money and pay Paypal their fees!
I am so furious, this is an absurd process!

I am not sure a wind up post is helpful on this thread. Are you being serious ?

Remind me not to buy from you, then.I have virtually cut them out by using My Hermes. Drop them off and it is actually cheaper. Have then collected and it is only 18p extra. Full tracking. As long as you don't send a china vase in a plastic bag, they are quick to respond and deal with any issues.
Hermes say they pushed an item through my letter box at 10.00 am on 30 March. Not true. I was standing next to the letter box, on the outside, at the time, working on the house - and the item was too large to go through the letter box anyway.
I have no item but because Hermes have fraudulently said it was delivered when it was not, ebay found in favour of the seller.

Well obviously they are crooks based on your one experience versus millions of trouble free deliveries a year. I have now seen the error of my ways and will never use them again.0 -

Am worrying now whether to change my £2.78 delivery option (Myhermes) to £7.25 special delivery ROyal mail. Perhaps the MyHermes haters will buy from me but I can't imagine anyone else will
I do offer both and also RM signed for but strangely enough 99.99% of my buyers seem to choose the cheapest option.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I never get anyone complaining to me about the fact I used My Hermes. I also do offer a Royal Mail signed option too. Also find few people want to pay the extra couple of pound. Did once have someone choose Special Delivery for a 99p item though.0 -
I would be very against eBay routinely stepping in and refunding in these circumstances, I just can't imagine how much our fees would have to go up to cover all the INrs claims
I can remember the good old days when ebay was just a venue and you could get paid any way you liked and the fees were cheap.
Back then you could decide who to refund or not, and ebay was a community full of happy sellers and buyers.
Then they got greedy and meddled..."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Yep, about 2005 the rot set in. And then when they made Paypal compulsory and no neg feedback, it was complete.
I wonder what will happen with ebay when Paypal splits off, because all the growth/profit has come from their side. When eRump is left, it will look bare.0 -

Ah yes the good old days when people sent cheques or used bank transfers and never saw their goods or money again. When I certainly would never buy anything of value - and would buy elsewhere instead where I could buy safely knowing my money was safe.
Darn UK laws giving buyers 'rights', best go onto Gumtree or facebook and send that nice lady who wants you to buy her Laptop but needs the bank transfer first and who - gosh horror, seems to have deleted her facebook account when the laptop doesn't arrive.
I am actually quite content that my buyers have rights, both when I sell on ebay and when I sell occasionally on Amazon, I have even joined a couple of facebook groups now where paypal is compulsory. The fact that buyers feel safe has increased sales.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Those terrible traditional free payment methods so despised by ebay...
Thankfully now we can all get paid via an easily reversible and expensive method.
And as a bonus, get a warm glow from the knowledge that the extra 10% we've had to part with is going straight offshore to some Americans working out of a tax haven."Love you Dave Brooker! x"
