Heat rash/prickly heat

Not sure if this is the right place or not so forgive me if not.
We are recently back from a trip to Tenerife where myself and daughter suffered heat rash. What I want to know is is there any way of preventing this and if not what are the effective treatments if we do get it?
I was told that certain types of sun cream play a large part in heat rash due to them blocking the skin pores and not letting the skin breath/sweat. We were using Tesco own brand factor 50&30.
I'd like to get this figured out before be go on our next holiday.
Thanks,
Pete.

I noticed an improvement with piz buin allergy,p20 and ultra sun.
Also tried beta carotene a couple of months before going but that didn't work0 -
When my daughter was younger, she did suffer bouts of prickly heat on holiday. The pharmacies would always prescribe antihistamine. She now starts taking a course of Clarityn a few days before going to a hot country and continues taking them whilst abroad. She has found this course of action very effective.0

I've also found that the Piz Buin allergy suncream stops me getting prickly heat, I also take a antihistamine tablet every day.0

I'd recommend the antihistamines and also take some hydrocortisone cream as that helps with the itch. My son gets it no matter what cream he uses and it gets worse on an evening. He is one of those sweaty sort of kids and struggles to keep cool!0

I agree with the others, allergy sunscreen (I just buy asda own brand) and antihistamines shortly before and during holiday make a massive difference.
I've also found as I get older it's got better - my 1st hot holiday at 15 I came up in massive lumps so bad that I had to get 2 steroid injections. The Dr said I was allergic to the sun!!Baby on board - EDD 29th Sept0 -
I only get it when using Ambre Solaire so who knows who makes Tesco'stravelover0

I used to get it horribly but P20 or the Once a Day Calypso from Aldi seem to prevent it."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

P20 seems to stop it for me too, with an antihistamine cream if there's a bit that I missed with the P20, like on my toes

I'm 27 and still get prickly heat even in the UK!!!
I've found the boots sensitive skin sun cream really good factor 50!
I also burn really easily and quickly I found that having a cool shower after being in the sun and the boots after sun gel (Its really gloopy but amazing on burn and prickly heat giving quick relief) I've tried lots of different after sun sprays and creams but found the gel the best.
good luck xxThanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0 -
Another vote here for Piz Buin Allergy, along with Antihistamines. I still get the odd bit...but nowhere near what i used to.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)0
