Including mini roundabouts.
Highway Code:
188
Mini-roundabouts. Approach these in the same way as normal roundabouts. All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so. Remember, there is less space to manoeuvre and less time to signal. Avoid making U-turns at mini-roundabouts. Beware of others doing this.
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10(1) & 16(1)
Perhaps I worded that a little wrong. I was going around a roundabout, straight over as in the the exit I was taking was the same road as the one I had entered from. It was a large roundabout anyway, not a mini one.0 -

What happens next will very much revolve around what info the police turn up with their enquiries and whether the offending driver is actually "identified".
The outcome of whether the offending driver is "identified" has significance on what the obligations are of the insurance company of that vehicle. If the other car had been stolen and was reported as stolen by the owner and the thief is never identified, you won't get a penny out of that person's insurer and it will have to go through the MIB.
As this could take a while you may be best making the claim for your own vehicle via your own insurance company, unless you are able to secure the services of an accident management company to assist you.
Do you have legal cover with your car insurance?
With the benefit of hindsight, you should have rung 999 at the time and not 101 in order to get more immediate police activity.
Thank you. Obviously there was a reason the car did not stop, and the likelihood is it's one of those reasons you mentioned. I just don't know what to do next?
I was tempted to contact the TP insurance company directly however I reckon they have not accepted liability (car is stolen maybe) so I don't see any point in that.
My other option of an accident management company I'm hesitant about as if the car was stolen I would eventually be liable for the costs, right?
I'm wondering whether I should instruct a solicitor as I will be making a personal injury claim anyway. My insurance company weren't helpful at all and I don't have legal cover.0 -
This is sad.
Makes me sick when I hear and see people like these who don't stop or drive without insurance.
It leaves a great mark on us drivers who abide law.
Glad you are okay.
And I heard these claims takes ages.
And why do you not get a courtesy car ? They normally provide one as standard.
Hope all goes well.0 -
I am sure OP meant I was negotiating a round a bout intending to take the exit opposite my entry.
OP: When my wife's car was damaged we got fed up waiting for our own insurers to help. We contacted the other drivers insurer and we were pleasantly surprised by how helpful they were. We were able to expedite repairs and they reimbursed us for the hire car.
It is an offence to leave the scene of an accident. If 3rd party did not then report this incident within 24 hours, they should be charging the other driver. If you are not happy with the police, you can complain in writing to the Chief Constable.
That is indeed what I meant. I did intend to contact TP insurance but I think if they haven't been in touch already then they are disputing liability (possibly on the grounds that the car was nicked)
As far as we were concerned, we reported the accident promptly and gave the police all the information they required. Perhaps we should have called 999 however there were no immediate life threatening injuries, plus we were both in shock. The fact that multiple patrol cars witnessed the collision and didn't stop suggested it wasn't a 'police emergency'0 -

I reported to police on 101 and my insurance company that day. His insurance eventually admitted liability 5 months later. The police did not interview him until 6 months later and then he was then reported for summons
As its only been 4 days since your accident I'm afraid you should prepare yourself as it may be a long wait.
I was actually summonsed to court 5 years ago for failing to stop, failing to report and due care and attention...I nudged a car in a car park when parking and didn't even notice...(and therefore didn't report) I was only made aware of it when I was contacted by police 3 months later. The damage to the third party's car was minimal and I still maintain I didn't hit it. The case was thrown out of court anyway as none of the 'witnesses' showed up. So I am acutely aware that prosecution is a long process but I'm concerned at the minute that Ive got no car and me and OH are nigh on incapacitated. Fingers crossed something gets sorted soon though!0 -

But how will you know any of that if you don't contact the TP company. On the one hand you are complaining that your own insurers aren't doing things quickly enough but then you seem unwilling to actually help yourselves by speaking to the TP company directly.Kirsty.victoria wrote: »Perhaps we should have called 999 however there were no immediate life threatening injuries, plus we were both in shock. You should, a RTC with injuries would have got the police attending on a 999 call, dialling 101 tells them it's not an emergency and they won't come. Injured innocent parties and a car leaving the scene of an accident would have had them scouring the area for that car I reckon.0 -
Assuming that none of the witnesses got the reg, you should just be thankful that they left you the bumper and reg plate behind.
Similar thing happened to me a few years back, but thankfully with a much less serious impact. The offending driver did not stop and was never identified. As I was hit to the rear offside I could not get the reg.
As there was no injury (at least not to me), the police were not interested, and the insurers did not seek to pursue the CCTV evidence that would probably have provided ID.
Given that the offender left the scene with such severe front end damage, it's unlikely they got very far. I'd suspect the the car was either stolen, driven without insurance, or the driver was under the influence-possibly all three!
Have you checked online to see if the car is taxed?
I know it was lucky, about the only bit of luck so far haha!
I'm almost certain the car was probably binned not too long after they made off which is why I'm a bit annoyed the police didn't try and find it.
The car is indeed taxed and MOTd. The insurance company is quite a reputable one that isn't on comparison sites and this fills me with dread. Could I contact them to find out what's going on or would they tell me to mind my own business?0 -

I'm just not sure of whether or not that would yield any results you see. If it's something you would recommend then I will contact them, just not sure of what they would be able to tell me0 -
What Insurance do you hold ?I do Contracts, all day every day.0

My friend had an accident the other week (a lorry drove into her on a roundabout) and the police were called and they said that they wouldn't attend as no one was hurt (even though they advised her to go to the hospital to be checked over) and for her to go to a police station the next day and report the accident. Luckily for my friend, the driver behind saw what happened and drove in front of the lorry so that the driver couldn't just drive away (which he was trying to do).0
