Removing mould from washing machine rubber seal

We have found that the rubber seal on the opening of our washing machine has a lot of black mould on it.
We have tried Stardrops and used it on an empty wash at 90 degrees and also have scrubbed the seal with stardrops but no such luck at removing it.
I was wandering if anyone knows of any tips that work for removing mould from the rubber seal?

Having done everything I would have done, give up and replace seal
Learning a valuable lesson, use stardrops or soda crystals earlier.0 -
Here's a link to an old thread on the same subject. There may be a few things to try before resorting to a new seal.

If it won't come off after that lot, its not coming off onto clothes so whilst its unsightly its not actually doing any harm - so just leave it.Adventure before Dementia!0

Take it you are single?
I'm not given that option. If I fail to clean it, told to change it.
Ps you are 100% correct.0 -
Fair point - fortunately Mrs WestonDave hasn't seen fit to become fixated on our washing machine seal which has had black marks on it for months!Adventure before Dementia!0

I live with my girlfriend. We moved in last year. I generally do the cleaning but over looked the face mould can get into the seal.
I saw online someone using terps to remove it which worked well but my fear would be it would never come out and my washing machine would be smelling of terps forever.
I did look at replacing the rubber seal but a youtube how to video showed me it was a big job and I'd have to take the machine apart to do that.0 -
I used to clear mould by using bleach + kitchen tower for my bathroom sealant. I don't know if it work at washing machine.0

I've just cleaned mine by running an empty 90 degree wash with a third of a bottle of bleach through it as the seal was black and the machine had a bad smell. Ran it again after with another empty wash to ensure all the bleach was gone.
Seems to have cured both problems. No mould, no smell.0 -
Great ill give bleach a go. Will any kind of bleach do, is there any type of bleach I should avoid? I don't want to break our washing machine.0

I had a small amount of mould on the door seal of my washing machine. I tried bleach and boil washes, but nothing seemed to work. That was until I used Dettol Mould and Mildew remover.
It is available in a spray gun bottle from Wilkinsons for £3.50. But spray that on, leave it for a minute and wipe off with a dry cloth. I would recommend running the machine through a rinse cycle after this, to rinse any residue away as it's pretty strong stuff.
