Change of name on Passport

Hi
I am due to renew my Passport and I am going back to my maiden name,it states on the documents required that I need my marriage certificate but I sent that to the court for my divorce. I have changed back to my maiden name by Deed Poll so will it be enough to send my Birth Certificate,Deed Poll and divorce decree? Has anybody done the same and was it straightforward.
Thanks
Alli

All you should need is your decree absolute and your old passport.

If you went back to your maiden name why did you do a deed poll? Your maiden name was yours forever, to use as you wished.

One reason for doing it by deed poll is so that your previous married name (which may have some negative connotations) doesn't have to be used in some official capacities.

My Wife changed back to her maiden name before we got married so that when the bands were listed at the registry office they would say "Beatrice Foghorn, name changed by deed poll" rather than "Beatrice Foghorn, previously known as Beatrice 1stMarriedName".

Sorry OP, can't help with your passport.
  • I changed my name on my new passport recently and had to send off my marriage certificate, I had a couple of questions regarding the application and ended up ringing the passport helpline, I found them to be very useful and meant I got it right when sending off my application, saving time and postage! Maybe give them a call and they can talk you through it?
