closing old accounts - file

if i close down old current account which has been unsused for ages via a bank switching service (ie. i sign up for a new current account with santander and they write to nationwide to close my old current account) - does this leave a mark on my file or carry out an ID check at the nationwide end?

so will santander just write to nationwide and say account holder X has authorised the account 12345678 to be closed.0
