You only replaced the disc and pads on one side?
That's a very very strange thing to do0 -
First stop would be replace all the rear brakes.
Perhaps get a garage to do it as you are clearly.not a mechanic. (No insult intended)
Replacing the disc and pad on one side is just plain crazy.0 -
dont know if on this car the abs pickup is a sensor bolted into the hub or is part of the wheel bearing
i would stab at it being bolted in and its highly likely on working on one of the hubs you broked it
The sensor is bolted in thru the back plate but it is quite well corroded.
It looks like and has a close up pic here...

Also, I took it for a run, sub 10mph, and the light does not come on, so I am pretty sure with the info supplied here that it is within the wheel
Strider - cheers - I did use copper grease, I'll check tomorrow, and thanks to the others with info related to the problem.0 -
Replacing the disc and pad on one side is just plain crazy.
Not necessarily.
By doing just the one side at a time you can find out problems, just like this one, whereas if I did both at the same time, then which side did I break?
In any case, I can only jack up one side at a time.
Both sides had been done, but I noticed the problem after just the first disc change.0 -
ABS light won't be triggered until you go above a set speed usually.
The facts as you have reported them.
ABS light was not on.
You replaced half the rear brakes.
ABS light is now on.
Wonder what the cause could be.
I assume you have read the fault codes?0 -

You'd get the code read for starters. This should provide some very valuable info.
Doing disc and pad on one side is not the normal thing to do, having uneven wear across the axle is not recommendation at all.
Let me guess, you also changed 2 of the 4 spark plugs too0 -
"Anti-lock braking system - MK 60"
Recirculation pump ABS/ASR, mechanically blocked"
"Anti-lock braking system - MK 60 ESP"
Recirculation pump ABS/ASR, mechanically blocked"
Have ordered an ABS pump/ECU assembly.
Going to replace it myself.
Any gotchas in doing this especially steps to take to minimise fluid loss and bleed the system afterwards?0 -
If there is a bleed nipped on the abs unit then use it. Otherwise you may need a scan tool to operates valves inside to get fluid flowing in all chambers.
Assuming it's actually the pump and not just a faulty sensor thats caused the ecu to shutdown abs0
