you will have seen this thread, i assume:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5211486

which includes comments from various CapOne customers, and where they may look to shift their spending to..

re. Amex, the Platinum Cashback rather than the Platinum Cashback Everyday may suit you better. i don't think there is a minimum spending requirement to quality for cashback.. just tiers beyond which your rate increases. they do change the terms over time, but one of the nice things about Amex [touches wood;)] is that if they change the terms for new customers they leave existing customers on their existing terms..which can be very helpful.

£3,750 as your cumulative credit limit is a drop in the ocean. Unless you are earning below £10k, it shouldn’t make any difference in you applying for a new card.

If you don’t see yourself using the Cap 1 card after the cashback offer has ended, get a new card (by the sounds of it you are leaning towards Barclaycard) then close the Cap 1 account. Because you’ve had it for 3 years, having a long settled account in your credit history also acts in your favour for any future applications.
That's pleasing to hear - my income is above most minimums thankfully.

I'd use it until I replaced it purely as it has the flexibility for any unexpected large purchases which the Lloyds may not. I am hoping the Barclaycard is a go-er as that seems the most inviting but if not I'd still need to look around at what's available and what they offer.

I did indeed see it - I arrived home on Sunday to the letter and immediately came on here.

I had looked at both the Amex Plat cards however my only gripe for both is the lack of acceptance as I like to use a CC wherever possible and some smaller premises don't take them. The non-Everyday card having the fee means I'd need to spend over £2k a year just to cover the fee.

It's the same (to a lesser degree due to the duality of a Visa card included) with the Lloyds Choice - the return being cut considerably by the fee. This is why the Barclaycard duo looks so enticing!

    Cheers

I should add, between November and December I opened TSB, Tesco and Nwide accounts and upgraded my Graduate to Club Lloyds. However, with the exception of Club where I already had one, I declined OD's as I won't need them. Just thinking along the lines of credit files.

none of that sounds problematical to me. Current Account applications don't seem to have a detrimental effect, ime... and i have opened a lot.

our hairdressers don't accept Amex. we can't pay Council Tax using Amex. and my annual car insurance can't be paid using Amex. other than that, i find it is taken everywhere i go.. all shops, takeaways (our nearest Jamaican one now takes it :)), restaurants, now even the Post Office. so if CapOne change the deal i'll be quite happy to just use Amex and either a debit card or a 'spare creditcard' (ie. without a BT balance on it) as occasional backup.

I've had Amex several times in the past and found a lot of places that don't take it. I'm not disputing the previous posters experience but I am saying that experiences can vary depending on where you shop/eat. If you live in London then you probably won't have a big problem, but a lot of smaller restaurants, smaller shop and on-line shops don't take it because of the charges. Some holiday companies take it but place bigger charges on which cancel out the cashback benefit.
I'm not dissing it because it might be good for some people, but if you plan to do a big spend to get the promotional cashback then it might be worth checking out whether it's accepted as experiences vary.

A brief twitter exchange with Barclaycard - the Cashback card is currently not open to new customers. I have enquired as to how long a customer might have to be on Freedom before upgrading, per one or two people have in the other thread.

I'm still not convinced by the Amex card alone personally which is a real shame.

I think it will cause a few people problemsI don't like to carry much cash with me as being rather on the ...err older genration and slightly hamper by a mobility problem I can tuck a C/C into my pocket and often don't have to carry a bag or purse with me when I'm out
One hand uses a walking stick anyway. not too sure of what I'll do,but if there is no additional benefit for me after 1st June I will probably change c/c business to another company.I always pay off my bill every month anyway.May have to revert to using my debit card again

I also try to go cashless as often as I can - it's just so much more convenient. Though I tend to use cash more than debit card as I keep my bank balance at optimum level for credit interest and other outgoing bills so it's pretty much worry-free there.

Still not sure what I'll do!
