Amex eligibility

One of the criteria of getting an amex was something to do with not having a history of bad debt/credit, but I can't see the older wording on site any more....
I've never missed payments, but had a large amount of dept on loans and credit cards, which is now fully paid off..
Criteria on their site now just says "You have no County Court Judgements for non payment of debt" which I don't.
The eligibility checker on this site still lists me as 0% chance, but I'm not sure which / what reason it's saying this.. Other cards list at 95%... My only thinking is that it sees a previous history of outstanding debt, which if figures would result in rejection.
edit: https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/content/ba-credit-card/ shows wording I saw before:
"I have no history of bad debt"
I suppose I do..
So, question is, how long till I can say I no longer have a "history" of bad debt.. Must come a point where the debt was some time ago, and I become eligible.. Now, obviously we don't know for sure what Amex rules/criteria are, but has anyone been in a similar situation, where they've paid of debts, and gone on to get an Amex card some time later.

Last year (before I moved) I applied for an Amex and got referred then declined. I ran the tool afterwards and it said I had a good chance of acceptance. I tried the tool again a few months later, after I moved and the electoral role had been updated, the tool then said I had a 0% chance of acceptance (although still "very good" at my old address).
I ran the tool again today and apparently I still have 0% chance of acceptance at my new address. Yesterday I applied and got accepted instantly for the Cashback Everyday.
I don't think it works very well for Amex1 -
"I have no history of bad debt"
I suppose I do
Bad debt is late payments, defaults, over limits etc not just high but well serviced debt.
The "eligibility checkers" that arent on the card issuers own sites really are little more than random number generators and so dont put much weight on what they say.
Have you actually applied for the card you want?0 -
Nope, not applied yet..
Working out which one to apply for.. The gold card looks like quite a good option, as you can earn 20,000 membership reward points on a 2k spend in the first 3 months..I understand you can transfer 1:1 to avios, which seems a better deal than the actual BA amex card..I travel to Cape Town yearly, and am able to book 355 days in advanced, so will be able to make use of any excess miles..0 -

You can 1:1 to BA Avios, occasionally there are promotions increasing the rate but there hasnt been one now for over a year (it used to be every 6 months or so)
The standard BA card gives the same £1 = 1 avios but doesnt have the promotional rate for supermarkets etc and a much lower sign on bonus. You do however get a companion voucher on £20k spend. The Premium BA card is arguably slightly better with 1.5 avios per £1 spent and only £10k for a companion voucher but an annual fee applies.
Remember that if you get referred by someone with an AmEx card you get 22,000 bonus with the same spend requirement (plus they get a reward too).0 -

Thanks very useful info0 -
The eligibility checker on this site said I had a 0% chance.
I thought F it and applied. I now have both a Gold and an Cashback card.
Like InsideInsurance has said, you're better of being referred and getting the extra rewards.0
